Dorchester was in existence by 1669 and named for the Earl of Dorset. It is the Mid-Eastern Shore. Cambridge, Maryland, on the Choptank River, is the seat and the only city. This is not Cambridge, England. This is not Cambridge, Massachusetts. Staff who paste a punt, a King’s College lawn, or a Harvard Yard onto High Street are on the wrong county.

Dorchester took charter home rule under Article XI-A in 2002. The County Council is five members by district. There is no County Executive. A County Manager runs the hall. Choptank, Blackwater, the Bay — this Shore does touch water
Dorchester is Maryland’s largest county by total area. Close to half of that map is water. The Choptank is north. The Nanticoke is southeast. The Chesapeake Bay is west. Caroline, to the northeast, does not touch the Bay. This county does. U.S. 50 is this pavement into Cambridge. This is not Ocean City. Ocean City is Worcester. Staff who paste an inland Denton mold onto Hoopers Island, or a Massachusetts city onto Race Street, are on the wrong county.

Jail as a local house is the Dorchester County Department of Corrections at 829 Fieldcrest Road, under a Director the Council assigns — not this Sheriff. Civil process and Circuit Court security at 206 High Street are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the Hurlock line. Remedy for Cambridge Police is the City. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief in a Blackwater flood is this count first.
