Coös — Coos in the URL, Coös in the prose — is a working county and the northernmost of ten. It is not a Massachusetts abolished map. Commissioners still sit. A county convention still votes a budget. A house of correction still takes a count at West Stewartstown. The Sheriff is still elected here. Municipal police, fire, schools, and town clerks are city and town services. Confirm officers on the Secretary of State county roster.
Haverhill is Grafton. Ossipee is Carroll. Quebec is a different country. Vermont is a different state. Do not steal them.

Connecticut Lakes, mill city, Canadian line
Lancaster is the shire. Berlin is the mill city. Colebrook is a town. Pittsburg is the northern town. The Connecticut Lakes are water, not a county. Indian Stream is history on this map, not a second government. A winter storm here is the only road and an isolated mill. No ocean. No capital dome. No ski-brochure as the whole story.
Four-year from 2024 — the exception on this line
Three county commissioners sit by district. The convention is this county’s House members. The Sheriff, County Attorney, Treasurer, and the registers are elected. Coös’s sheriff clock is four years from the 2024 general — RSA 653:1 Coos proviso. The SOS table: no election 2026, next 2028. Do not invent a 2026 sheriff oval because the Governor is 2026. How a North Country public actually reaches a desk
Each municipality has its own site. Berlin’s site does not speak for Pittsburg. The Sheriff’s official listing speaks for process and court in Lancaster. The house of correction’s listing speaks for custody in West Stewartstown. A student looks at that town’s jobs page or that department’s jobs page. Outreach that only knows a Bretton Woods weekend is on the wrong county — and Bretton Woods is Carroll.
Custody, courts, papers, rights
Crime and fire are municipal. Jail is the county Department of Corrections at West Stewartstown. Prosecution is the County Attorney. Rights do not change at the Colebrook line. Remedy for a town police issue is that town. Remedy for a jail issue is the superintendent. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when 3 is the only road is mutual aid plus the State. Papers still get served in Clarksville.
