Baxter County, Arkansas, was erected 24 March 1873 from parts of Fulton, Izard, Marion, and Searcy, and named for Elisha Baxter. Mountain Home is the seat. It sits on a plateau between the North Fork and the White. It is not the capital of Arkansas. Little Rock is. This is not Baxter Springs, Kansas. This is not Baxter County, Tennessee. Crime in unincorporated Baxter — lake-road remainder, Big Flat country, the plateau outside the towns — is this Sheriff. Crime in Mountain Home is often Mountain Home Police. Crime in Cotter, Gassville, Lakeview, or Norfork is often those municipal departments where they exist. This Sheriff is not those badges. The Sheriff’s own jail page says persons taken into custody go to this Detention Center, and that the house is inspected by the Arkansas Criminal Detention Facilities Review Committee. That house is this badge’s shop. North Central Unit is ADC in Calico Rock, Izard County. It is not this jail. Do not send a family looking for a county booking to Calico Rock, to a marina, or to Kansas.
