2028 Election — Attorney General of North Carolina

North Carolina Attorney General · 2028 · educational cover · justice civic · American Future Type
This is Side Two — a Council of State hire, not a leftover 2026 race
This page is the arena for this office, this cycle. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin.
It is not a campaign. It does not crown a winner. It does not tell you who to vote for. Names belong on the official sample ballot.
North Carolina elects this lawyer in presidential years, on the Council of State, separate from the Governor. Last regular: 5 November 2024. Next regular: Tuesday, 7 November 2028. Do not invent a 2026 Attorney General race. The House and Senate stood 2026. They are not this desk.
When one hundred counties actually vote for this lawyer
- Primary: March typical — confirm ncsbe.gov when the 2028 calendar posts. Do not treat a guessed Tuesday as filed.
- Second primary (if needed): confirm SBE.
- General: Tuesday, 7 November 2028.
- Take office: 1 January 2029.
This is a regular Attorney General election. It is not a U.S. Senate race as the whole ballot. North Carolina’s Class III Senate next stands 2028 — a different hire. The Governor is a different 2028 hire (Governor of North Carolina · 2028). This desk is the state’s lawyer on the Council of State.
There is no term-limit clock on this lawyer. That is a clock fact. It is not a crown for the next name.
Names belong on ncsbe.gov
Do not take names from a news comment or a Charlotte thread.
- Official candidate list / sample ballot — North Carolina State Board of Elections
- County sample ballot and the county board of elections in this county
- Current Attorney General of record (not the same thing as the 2028 nominee) — ncdoj.gov
- Registration and ballot status — SBE voter tools
If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins.
A complaint against this desk is not a Raleigh mayor file
A resident who was mistreated by a state file, a consumer shop that would not answer, or a license that never moved files on official doors: the Department of Justice, the agency of jurisdiction, the courts, and — for election process — the State Board of Elections and the county board. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
A Raleigh mayor complaint is a city file (Mayor of Raleigh). A district attorney is a district prosecutor. Do not file a state-lawyer grievance at city hall.
Impeachment, when it is actually this constitution’s file, is articles in the House and a Senate trial — not a comment.
After a hurricane that still makes Wake, the consumer door still opens
Relief this office actually runs is a state consumer door, an opinion a board asked for, and the litigation this constitution actually assigns. A hurricane that still reports to Raleigh, ice on I-40, a Neuse flood — mutual aid with Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina is real. Those states do not vote for this Attorney General.
The General Assembly’s hour is the statute. The Attorney General’s hour is the file that is state, not a district attorney’s. Read the office page before you read a mailer.
Papers, opinions, the night a mountain county asks Raleigh
You are hiring the Attorney General of North Carolina for the whole state — four years, one lawyer, one hundred counties, Council of State, not a Governor. Papers a resident actually needs: a consumer status, an opinion process that is Article III not a rumor, a public-integrity question that is not a mayor’s. The night shift is 100 counties, not one skyline.
The staff is the office. A serious Attorney General is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. Raleigh is the job. The rest of the state is the hire.
March primary (confirm), November 7 general — not 2026
Due process on this hire: March primary as the 2028 calendar actually writes it, general 7 November 2028. Confirm filing, second primary, absentee, and ID on ncsbe.gov. Do not teach a shortcut. Do not teach Kentucky’s odd-year May as this calendar.
A vacancy after the election is succession under this constitution, not a tweet. Do not transplant Louisiana’s Saturday onto the oaks.
The Constitution does not pause because 2026 was even. Equal protection does not pause because a county is rural. Charlotte does not become the capital because a mailer said so. A beach is not this capital.
Equal protection from a mountain precinct to the Coastal Plain
Petition. Property. Peaceable assembly under the oaks and in a mountain precinct. Equal protection in one hundred counties. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the envelope actually holds.
This office practices state law that can touch a license, a consumer file, a prison, a river, a road, a hurricane year, and a vote. It must not treat Charlotte as the capital, Raleigh as the whole Piedmont, or a 2026 Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Raleigh is the capital. The people of North Carolina hire the office. The State Board of Elections is the door.
