2028 Election — Attorney General of Montana

Montana Attorney General · 2028 · educational cover · justice civic · American Future Type
This is Side Two — eight-in-sixteen is on this hire
This page is the arena for this office, this cycle. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin.
It is not a campaign. It does not crown a winner. It does not tell you who to vote for. Names belong on the official sample ballot.
Montana elects this lawyer in presidential years. Last regular: 5 November 2024. Next regular: Tuesday, 7 November 2028. Do not invent a 2026 Attorney General race.
Article IV, Section 8 is on this cycle: eight years in any sixteen-year period. 2028 is on that clock for this desk. That is a clock. It is not a crown for the next name.
When fifty-six counties actually vote for this lawyer
- Primary: June typical — confirm sosmt.gov when the 2028 calendar posts. Do not treat a guessed Tuesday as filed.
- General: Tuesday, 7 November 2028.
- Take office: January 2029. Confirm the live Monday.
- Limit: eight years in sixteen. Confirm the Secretary of State’s term-limit page.
This is a regular Attorney General election. It is not a U.S. Senate race as the whole ballot. Montana’s Class II Senate is 2026. The Governor is a different 2028 hire (Governor of Montana · 2028), on the same eight-in-sixteen clock. This desk is the state’s lawyer.
Names belong on sosmt.gov
Do not take names from a news comment or a glacier thread.
- Official candidate list / sample ballot — Montana Secretary of State — Elections
- County sample ballot and the election administrator in this county
- Current Attorney General of record (not the same thing as the 2028 nominee) — dojmt.gov
- Registration and ballot status — SOS voter tools
If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins.
A complaint against this desk is not a Helena mayor file
A resident who was mistreated by a state file, a consumer shop that would not answer, or a license that never moved files on official doors: the Department of Justice, the agency of jurisdiction, the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of State and the county election administrator. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
A Helena mayor complaint is a city file (Mayor of Helena). A county attorney is a county prosecutor. Do not file a state-lawyer grievance at city hall.
Impeachment, when it is actually this constitution’s file, is articles in the House and a Senate trial — not a comment.
After fire season, the consumer door still opens
Relief this office actually runs is a state consumer door, an opinion a board asked for, and the litigation this constitution actually assigns. A fire season on the divide, ice on I-15, a Missouri crest at Helena — mutual aid with North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Idaho is real. Those states do not vote for this Attorney General. There is no ocean to call.
The Legislature’s hour is the statute. The Attorney General’s hour is the file that is state, not a county attorney’s. Read the office page before you read a mailer.
Papers, opinions, the night a Hi-Line county asks Helena
You are hiring the Attorney General of Montana for the whole state — four years, one lawyer, fifty-six counties, not a Governor. Papers a resident actually needs: a consumer status, an opinion process that is Article VI not a rumor, a public-integrity question that is not a mayor’s. The night shift is 56 counties, not one gulch.
The staff is the office. A serious Attorney General is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. Helena is the job. The rest of the state is the hire.
June primary (confirm), November 7 general — not 2026
Due process on this hire: June primary as the 2028 calendar actually writes it, general 7 November 2028. Confirm filing, absentee, and ID on sosmt.gov. Do not teach a shortcut. Do not teach Kentucky’s odd-year May as this calendar.
A vacancy after the election is succession under this constitution, not a tweet. Do not transplant Louisiana’s Saturday onto the gulch.
The Constitution does not pause because 2026 was even. Equal protection does not pause because a county is rural. Billings does not become the capital because a mailer said so. A harbor is not this map.
Equal protection from the Hi-Line to a Yellowstone precinct
Petition. Property. Peaceable assembly on the gulch and in a Hi-Line precinct. Equal protection in fifty-six counties. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the envelope actually holds.
This office practices state law that can touch a license, a consumer file, a prison, a river, a road, a fire, and a vote. It must not treat Billings as the capital, Helena as the whole divide, or a 2026 Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Helena is the capital. The people of Montana hire the office. The Secretary of State is the door.
