Voter-education briefing for the 2027 Attorney General race in Mississippi. Confirm names, dates, and the sample ballot on official election sites — not on social media. Jackson is the capital. Not the Gulf. Not 2026.

This is Side Two — the 2027 hire, not a leftover 2026 race

This page is the arena for this office, this cycle. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin.

It is not a campaign. It does not crown a winner. It does not tell you who to vote for. Names belong on the official sample ballot.

Mississippi elects this lawyer in odd years, with the Governor. Last regular: 7 November 2023. Next regular: Tuesday, 2 November 2027. Do not invent a 2026 Attorney General race.

When eighty-two counties actually vote for this lawyer

  • Primary (statutory): first Tuesday after the first Monday in August. Confirm the live 2027 Tuesday on sos.ms.gov when the calendar posts. Do not treat a guessed date as filed.
  • Primary runoff (if needed): three weeks later — confirm SOS.
  • General: Tuesday, 2 November 2027. Polls 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Bar clock: twenty-six, five years a citizen of the state, five years’ practice. Confirm the live packet.

This is a regular Attorney General election. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Mississippi’s Class II Senate race is 2026. The Governor is a different 2027 hire (Governor of Mississippi · 2027). The Lieutenant Governor is a third statewide hire. This desk is the state’s lawyer.

Winners take office in January 2028. Confirm the live Tuesday on official Mississippi sites. Do not transplant Kentucky’s first Monday onto Jackson.

Names belong on yallvote.ms

Do not take names from a news comment or a Gulf postcard thread.

  1. Official candidate list / sample ballot — sos.ms.gov and Y’all Vote (yallvote.ms)
  2. County sample ballot and the circuit clerk in this county
  3. Current Attorney General of record (not the same thing as the 2027 nominee) — ago.ms.gov
  4. Registration and ballot status — Y’all Vote

If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins.

There is no term-limit clock on this lawyer. That is a clock fact. It is not a crown for the next name.

A complaint against this desk is not a Jackson mayor file

A resident who was mistreated by a state file, a consumer shop that would not answer, or a license that never moved files on official doors: the Attorney General’s consumer and official-misconduct doors, the agency of jurisdiction, the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of State, the circuit clerk, and the county election commissioners. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.

A Jackson mayor complaint is a city file (Mayor of Jackson). A district attorney is a district prosecutor. Do not file a state-lawyer grievance at city hall.

Impeachment, when it is actually this constitution’s file, is articles in the House and a Senate trial — not a comment.

After the Pearl and a hurricane that still makes Jackson

Relief this office actually runs is a state consumer door, an opinion a board asked for, and the litigation § 7-5-1 actually assigns. A Pearl River flood at Jackson, a Gulf hurricane that still reports to Hinds County, a freeze on Delta ground — mutual aid with Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Louisiana is real. Those states do not vote for this Attorney General.

The Legislature’s hour is the statute. The Attorney General’s hour is the file that is state, not a district attorney’s. Read the office page before you read a mailer.

Papers, opinions, the night a Delta county asks Jackson

You are hiring the Attorney General of Mississippi for the whole state — four years, one lawyer, eighty-two counties, not a Governor. Papers a resident actually needs: a consumer status, an opinion process that is § 7-5-1 not a rumor, a public-integrity question that is not a mayor’s. The night shift is 82 counties, not one skyline.

The staff is the office. A serious Attorney General is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. Jackson is the job. The rest of the state is the hire.

August primary (confirm SOS), November 2 general

Due process on this hire: August primary as statute actually writes it, general 2 November 2027. Confirm filing, runoff, absentee, and ID on sos.ms.gov and Y’all Vote. Do not teach a shortcut. Do not teach Louisiana’s Saturday as this calendar.

A vacancy after the election is succession under this constitution and statute, not a tweet. Do not transplant Virginia’s 2029 clock onto 2027.

The Constitution does not pause because 2026 was even. Equal protection does not pause because a county is rural. The Gulf does not become the capital because a mailer said so. Memphis does not become Mississippi.

Equal protection from the Delta to a pine-hills precinct

Petition. Property. Peaceable assembly under the New Capitol and in a Delta precinct. Equal protection in eighty-two counties. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the envelope actually holds.

This office practices state law that can touch a license, a consumer file, a prison, a river, a road, and a vote. It must not treat the Gulf as the capital, Jackson as the whole Pearl, or a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.

Jackson is the capital. The people of Mississippi hire the office. Y’all Vote is the door.
