The Arkansas State Senate is the upper house of the Arkansas General Assembly. Thirty-five Senators. That number is the Board of Apportionment’s Senate map: one Senator per district. The Legislature’s own door at arkleg.state.ar.us is plain: thirty-five desks, not one northwest skyline.
This is not a United States Senate seat. The federal files live at Arkansas Class II and Arkansas Class III. Class II is on 3 November 2026. That is a different desk. This chamber does not vote in Congress, does not confirm federal judges, and does not sit in Washington.
This is not the Arkansas House of Representatives. One hundred desks, two-year terms, all up every even year — a different house. This is not the Governor. This is not the Attorney General. This is not a Mayor.
Little Rock is the capital, on the Arkansas River in Pulaski County. Fayetteville is not the capital. Fort Smith, Jonesboro, Pine Bluff, the Delta, the Ozarks, the Ouachitas, and a pine county that never makes a northwest broadcast hire this chamber — thirty-five districts, not one campus.
Arkansas is seventy-five counties. The Governor’s House map is not the four U.S. House districts. A State Senate district is not the whole state. Seat packets, when they ship, teach this district. This page teaches the chamber.

Article 5, lots, and the 2-4-4 clock
Senators are usually elected for four years. After each census the Board of Apportionment redraws the thirty-five districts, every Senate seat appears on the next ballot, and the body draws lots: some take a two-year term, some a four-year term, so the chamber returns to stagger. That is a 2-4-4 decade, not Alabama’s all-up quadrennium, not Arizona’s two-year hire.
2026 is not an all-up year. Seventeen of thirty-five seats stand on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Eighteen sat in 2024. Confirm which district is on your sample ballot on the Secretary of State — do not guess from a thread, and do not invent a 2026 race for a seat that drew the other class.
Winners take office the second Monday in January following the election. That is not midnight of election day. That is not California’s first Monday in December.
The Lieutenant Governor is President of the Senate. The body elects a President Pro Tempore. That is a different hinge than Alaska, where the Senate elects its own President and the Lieutenant Governor does not preside.
Qualifications: a Senator at least twenty-five, a U.S. citizen, a resident of the state two years, and of the district one year. Always verify the current constitution. This page is teaching, not a filing packet.
Term limits are a clock: Arkansas law now limits consecutive legislative service (commonly taught as twelve consecutive years, with a sit-out). Confirm the current amendment text before treating a number as gospel. Consecutive-term caps that apply to the Governor are not automatically this desk.
Vacancies: the Governor issues a writ of election (Article 5, Section 6). Do not invent a holdover. Confirm on the Secretary of State.
Even-numbered years run a fiscal session — shorter than the odd-year regular session. 2026 was that even-year clock. Confirm dates on arkleg.state.ar.us. A missed week in Little Rock is a real cost.

The official legislative door is arkleg.state.ar.us. Bills, amendments, committee notices, and the member of record belong there — not on a forwarded screenshot. Session calendars and today’s schedule are posted on that site.
The official election door is the Arkansas Secretary of State — Elections. Registration, ballot status, and the sample ballot belong on that site and the county clerk in this county — seventy-five of them.
Staff who only know a Facebook page are not doing the job. A constituent who was told “you can vote by text” was not told the truth until a .gov page says otherwise.
Redistricting of this map is the Board of Apportionment (Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General) — not a legislative self-draw, not California’s citizens’ commission. Maps get litigated. Treat a court order and a stay as clocks. Confirm which map a given election actually used on the Board and the Secretary of State.
Little Rock confirmations, not a federal file
A confirmation hearing is this chamber’s justice minute: an appointee the Governor named, a board that will actually touch a license, a prison, a school, or a river. It is not a trial. It is not a U.S. Senate hearing. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer (Attorney General of Arkansas). The Senate is not that office.
Equal protection on this map is not a northwest-Arkansas-only file. A Delta county, a pine county, a river-valley mill town, and a Pulaski precinct hire the same Constitution. A district that never makes a Fayetteville broadcast still sits in this chamber. The U.S. Attorney and a circuit judge are not this Senator.
After an ice storm and a Delta flood
Care this office actually gives is a bill and an oversight hour, not a church. Do not invent a ministry. A tornado night on the prairie, a flood on Delta ground, an ice storm on the Ozark side, a poultry-or-rice year that is not a Little Rock press conference — those land as appropriations, emergency statutes, and questions to agencies the Governor runs.
Rural hospitals, a state prison, Medicaid as state policy, the National Guard in state status: the Senate does not command the Guard (the Governor does). It writes and oversees the statutes those desks live under. Chaplaincy that exists in a prison or a Guard unit is that department’s staffing. It is not this page’s pulpit.
How a student learns the upper house
The General Assembly’s own shops — bill drafting, fiscal notes, the Bureau of Legislative Research — are how the work is actually learned. Page, intern, and session-staff openings belong on official legislative and university civic pages, not on a campaign site. A student who wants the civic path confirms those doors on .gov and campus postings.
County clerks, circuit clerks, and the Secretary of State’s Elections Division are how election work is learned. Pulaski is a county. It is not this chamber. A law-school clinic that files in Little Rock still files in a court, not in a Senate committee.
Two rivers, pine, and a fiscal session
Census and the Board of Apportionment. The 2-4-4 lot. An even-year fiscal session versus an odd-year regular session. A tornado watch. A river-flood stage on the Arkansas, the White, the St. Francis, or the Mississippi side. A drought report from a Delta extension office. Committee attendance. Confirmation questionnaires. Dockets that a bill would actually change.
That is situational awareness for this chamber. It is not spy fiction. It is not a Mayor’s night radio. It is not the Attorney General’s case map.

The Arkansas River at Little Rock, the White, the Ouachita, the St. Francis, and the Mississippi on the eastern line are this hydrology. A desert fountain is not this land. An ocean is out of place. Missouri is a different state. Tennessee is a different state. Mississippi is a different state. Texas is a different state. Oklahoma is a different state. West Memphis looks at Memphis and remains Arkansas.
