- The term is four years. This chamber is staggered. Sixteen odd-numbered State Senate seats — districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31 — are this Tuesday. Even-numbered districts last stood in 2024 and next stand in 2028.

This is a regular State Senate election for half the chamber. It is not a U.S. Senate race, though Wyoming’s Class II is on 2026. That is Washington. This is Cheyenne. It is the Governor race on the same Tuesday — a different desk. It is not an Attorney General race — Wyoming’s AG is appointed. It is the House — that is 62 seats, a different chamber, on the same Tuesday.

Cheyenne hire, Class II is a different desk
You are hiring sixteen State Senators for Wyoming this cycle — four years, the upper house of state law, advice and consent that is not federal, a citizen session in a capital that is not Jackson and is not Casper, a district that is not the whole state. Read the chamber page before you read a mailer. This is not a U.S. Senate seat, not a Governor, and not a Mayor.
Winners take office the first Monday in January 2027 (4 January 2027). The next general session is forty legislative days. The 2026 budget sitting already ran. That sitting was not this hire. Confirm on wyoleg.gov.
Wyoming has no Lieutenant Governor. The Senate elects its own President. That is a constitutional clock. It is not a campaign line.
County commissions fill a hole
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of State and the county clerk. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer and is appointed. The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to wyoleg.gov and sos.wyo.gov.
If a Senate desk goes empty, the board of county commissioners appoints. That is how a District 6 remainder later meets the voters. Do not invent Wisconsin’s writ-only special as the default. Do not invent West Virginia’s Governor list of three. House specials that already ran are House unless a Senate vacancy actually posted.
A plains blizzard
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. A plains blizzard, a wind night that closes I-80, a fire year on the basin, a drought on a ditch — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or road statute that was already on the calendar.
Jackson is Wyoming. It is not the capital. Casper is Wyoming. It is not Cheyenne. Mutual aid with a Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, or Nebraska county is real. Those counties do not vote in this chamber.
First Monday in January is the oath
Bills. Confirmations — including an Attorney General this state does not elect. A four-year clock on odd numbers. A district office that returns the call from a Powder River county that never makes a Teton broadcast. Papers a constituent actually needs: a status on a bill, a confirmation notice, a referral to the agency that holds the license.
The staff is the office. A serious Senator is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. The sandstone capitol is the sitting. The district is the hire. This is a citizen Legislature: no annual salary, a per-diem clock.
Budget even year is not the Senate class
Due process on this hire: a primary on 18 August 2026, a remainder if a county fill actually posted, a general on 3 November 2026. Wyoming does not run Virginia’s odd-year whole chamber. It does not run Washington’s one-hundred-five-day odd year as this class. Sixteen odd-numbered seats are this even year. The next odd-number class is 2030. The even-number class is 2028. The twenty-day budget sitting already ran. It is not this Tuesday.
The Constitution does not pause because the sitting is twenty days. Equal protection does not pause because a district is high plains or basin.
Equal protection in twenty-three counties
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Capitol Avenue and in a Powder River precinct. Equal protection in twenty-three counties. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the machine or the paper actually shows — including a sample ballot with no Senate line in an even-numbered district without a remainder.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a lease, a tax, a school, a prison, a water right, and a vote. It must not treat Cheyenne as the state, Jackson as the capital, or Casper as this chamber’s home. It must not treat a 2026 U.S. Senate Class II as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Cheyenne is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The county clerk is the door.
