- The term is four years. This chamber is staggered. Twenty-four mixed-number State Senate seats — districts 6, 7, 8, 13, 15, 21, 26, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, and 48 on the Senate term-expiration book — are this Tuesday. The other twenty-five last stood in 2024 and next stand in 2028.

This is a regular State Senate election for half the chamber. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Washington has no Class II and no 2026 U.S. Senate. Class I is 2030. Class III is 2028. It is not the Governor race — that desk is 2028. It is the House — that is 98 seats, a different chamber, on the same Tuesday.
A map fight is a court file and a Secretary of State posting. This page does not name candidates and does not declare a map winner.

Olympia hire, no Class II this year
You are hiring twenty-four State Senators for Washington this cycle — four years, the upper house of state law, advice and consent that is not federal, a professional session in a capital that is not Seattle, a nested district that is not the whole state. Read the chamber page before you read a mailer. This is not a U.S. Senate seat, not a Governor, and not a Mayor.
Winners take office the second Monday in January 2027 (11 January 2027). The next long session is one hundred five consecutive days. That is Washington’s clock. Confirm on leg.wa.gov.
The Lieutenant Governor may break a tie. That is a constitutional clock. It is not a campaign line.
County boards fill a hole
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of State and the county auditor. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer (2028). The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to leg.wa.gov and vote.wa.gov.
If a Senate desk goes empty, the county legislative authority (or the joint board of the counties in the district) appoints a replacement of the same political party. Do not invent a Governor appointment. Do not invent Wisconsin’s writ-only special. House specials that already ran are House unless a Senate vacancy actually posted.
Atmospheric river on the Sound
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. An atmospheric river on the Sound, a Cascade pass closure, a Columbia flood, an east-side freeze, a fire year on the dry side — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or road statute that was already on the calendar.
Seattle is Washington. It is not the capital. Spokane is Washington. It is not Olympia. Mutual aid with an Oregon or Idaho county is real. Those counties do not vote in this chamber.
Second Monday in January is the oath
Bills. Confirmations. A four-year clock on mixed numbers. A district office that returns the call from a Palouse county that never makes a Seattle broadcast. Papers a constituent actually needs: a status on a bill, a confirmation notice, a referral to the agency that holds the license.
The staff is the office. A serious Senator is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. The Legislative Building is the session. The district is the hire. One Senator and two Representatives share the map. They are not the same hire.
Vote-by-mail is the clock
Due process on this hire: a top-two primary on 4 August 2026, a special or a county appointment if a vacancy actually posted, a general on 3 November 2026. Washington does not run Virginia’s odd-year whole chamber. It does not run Wisconsin’s odd-number midterm as a clean even/odd split. Twenty-four mixed-number seats are this even year. The next class for the other twenty-five is 2028.
The Constitution does not pause because the ballot arrived in the mail. Equal protection does not pause because a district is peninsula or basin.
Equal protection in thirty-nine counties
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Capitol Way and in a Palouse precinct. Equal protection in thirty-nine counties. The right to a packet that matches what the paper actually shows — including a packet with no Senate line in a 2028 district.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a dam, a treaty-adjacent fishery, and a vote. It must not treat Olympia as the state, Seattle as the capital, or Spokane as this chamber’s home. It must not treat a missing U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Olympia is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The county auditor is the door.
