- Oregon held its primary 19 May 2026. Incumbent filing was 3 March 2026; non-incumbent filing 10 March 2026. Confirm leftover dates on the Secretary of State.
- Fifteen of thirty seats are this class. The open-offices list is not even-or-odd: Districts 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 24, 26. Do not invent a 2026 race for a desk that is not on that list.
This is a regular State Senate election for half the chamber. It is not a U.S. Senate race, though Oregon’s Class II is on 2026. It is not the Governor race, though Oregon’s Governor is also on 2026. It is not the Attorney General — that desk is 2028. It is not the House of Representatives — that is 60 seats, a different chamber, all on the same Tuesday.
Legislative maps are the Assembly’s lines unless a court says otherwise. Treat a statute posting and a stay as clocks. Confirm which line this district actually uses on .gov, not on a comment.

County boards fill a hole until January
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the Secretary of State where that statute actually reaches, the courts, and — for election process — the county clerk. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
A hole in this chamber is filled by the county governing bodies of the counties in the district until the second Monday in January following the next general (ORS 171.051). Confirm on the Secretary of State. Do not invent a Governor appointment of the Senator.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer. The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to oregonlegislature.gov and oregonvotes.gov.
Cascadia flood and an east-side fire
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. A Willamette flood year, a Cascadia planning statute, an east-side fire, a drought on high-desert ground — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or forest statute that was already on the calendar.
Ontario is Oregon. It is not Idaho. Brookings is Oregon. It is not California. Mutual aid with a Washington or Idaho county is real. Those counties do not vote in this chamber.
Second Monday in January is the hire
Bills. Confirmations. A state budget. A district office that returns the call from a county that never makes a Portland broadcast. A 35-day even year already sat; the long odd-year session is 2027. Papers a constituent actually needs: a status on a bill, a confirmation notice, a referral to the agency that holds the license.
The staff is the office. A serious Senator is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. Salem is the session. The district is the hire. The high desert is still the hire.
Oregon has no year-count term limit. Measure 113’s ten unexcused absences is a clock, not a crown. Confirm who is actually ineligible on the official filing — not on a thread.
Vote-by-mail is the default
Due process on this hire: a primary on 19 May 2026, a general on 3 November 2026, a take-office on Monday, 11 January 2027. Oregon runs vote-by-mail as the default. Ballot deadlines, signature verification, and registration rules belong on oregonvotes.gov. Do not teach a shortcut, and do not teach another state’s poll-only clock as this desk.
A vacancy after this election is still a county-board appointment until the next January. A map fight is a legislative file and a court file. Do not transplant Oklahoma’s even-number rule onto Oregon. Fifteen mixed-number seats are this biennium.
The Constitution does not pause because a session is thirty-five days. Equal protection does not pause because a district is east of the Cascades.
Rights on thirty-six counties
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on the Capitol mall and in a Malheur County precinct. Equal protection in thirty-six counties. The right to a voters’ pamphlet and a ballot that matches what the envelope actually holds.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a forest, a river, and a vote. It must not treat Portland as the capital, Salem as a Portland suburb, or the Willamette Valley as the whole state. It must not treat a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Salem is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. OregonVotes.gov is the door.
