This is a regular State Senate election for the whole chamber. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Massachusetts’s 2026 Senate race is Class II. It is not the Governor race, though the Governor is also on 2026. It is not the State House — that is 160 seats, a different chamber, on the same Tuesday. It is not the Governor’s Council, though those eight desks also stand on a two-year clock.
A map fight is a court file and a Secretary of the Commonwealth posting. This page does not name candidates and does not declare a map winner.

Hiring a two-year Beacon Hill desk
You are hiring forty State Senators for Massachusetts — two years, the upper house of the General Court, advice and consent that is not federal and not the Governor’s Council, a golden dome on Beacon Hill, a district that is not the whole Commonwealth. Read the chamber page before you read a mailer. This is not a U.S. Senate seat, not a Governor, and not a Mayor.
Winners take office the first Wednesday in January — 6 January 2027. That is Massachusetts’s clock. Confirm on the General Court.
A complaint is a paper in Suffolk, not a tweet
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the State Ethics Commission where that statute actually reaches, the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of the Commonwealth and the city or town clerk. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer. The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to malegislature.gov and sec.state.ma.us.
If a Senate desk goes empty after this election, a special election ordered by a majority of Senators is the door (Amendment Article 24). Confirm on the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
Berkshires, Valley, Cape — Boston is not the Commonwealth
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. A nor’easter on the Cape, a thaw flood on the Connecticut, ice in the Berkshires, a heat night in a mill city — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or ferry statute that was already on the calendar.
Boston is Massachusetts. It is not the whole map. Providence is Rhode Island. Mutual aid with a New Hampshire or Connecticut town is real. Those towns do not vote in this chamber.
First Wednesday in January
Due process on this hire: a primary on 1 September 2026, a special if a majority of Senators actually ordered one, a general on 3 November 2026. Massachusetts does not run Alabama’s midnight-of-election-day clock. Winners take office 6 January 2027. Confirm on the General Court.
Do not transplant a staggered Senate clock onto Massachusetts. All forty seats are this even year. The next regular class is 2028. Do not transplant Maine’s December oath onto Beacon Hill.
The Constitution does not pause because an informal session is on the calendar. Equal protection does not pause because a district is the Islands.
Rights on fourteen counties
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Beacon Hill and in a Berkshire precinct. Equal protection in fourteen counties. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the machine or the paper actually shows.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, and a vote. It must not treat Boston as the whole Commonwealth, Cambridge as the capital, or a Cape beach as Beacon Hill. It must not treat a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not treat the Governor’s Council as this Senate. It must not crown itself.
Boston is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The Secretary of the Commonwealth is the door.
