- The November general for this desk is a plurality. Ranked-choice in November is the federal line (U.S. Senate, U.S. House, President in presidential years) — not this Senator. Confirm on the Secretary of State.

This is a regular State Senate election for the whole chamber. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Maine’s 2026 Senate race is Class II. It is not the Governor race, though Maine’s Governor is also on 2026. It is not the State House — that is 151 voting seats, a different chamber, on the same Tuesday. It is not an Attorney General race; the Legislature hires that desk.

You are hiring thirty-five State Senators for Maine — two years, the upper house of state law, advice and consent that is not federal, a granite dome on the Kennebec, a district that is not the whole state. Read the chamber page before you read a mailer. This is not a U.S. Senate seat, not a Governor, and not a Mayor.
Winners take office the day before the first Wednesday of December — 1 December 2026. That is Maine’s clock. Confirm on the Legislature.
A grievance is not a Facebook post
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices where that statute actually reaches, the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of State and the municipal clerk. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer, hired by the Legislature. The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to legislature.maine.gov and maine.gov/sos.
If a Senate desk goes empty after this election, a special election is the door. The Governor proclaims it. Confirm on the Secretary of State.
Aroostook is Maine; Portland is not the capital
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. An ice storm on the Kennebec, a wind event on the coast, a mill night in a western county, a freeze on a potato barn — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or working-waterfront statute that was already on the calendar.
Portland is Maine. It is not the capital. Portsmouth is New Hampshire. Mutual aid with a New Brunswick or New Hampshire county is real. Those places do not vote in this chamber.
The oath is the day before December's first Wednesday
Due process on this hire: a primary on 9 June 2026, ranked-choice in that primary only if three or more actually qualified, a special if the Governor actually called one, a general on 3 November 2026 decided by plurality. Maine does not run Alabama’s midnight-of-election-day clock. Winners take office 1 December 2026. Confirm on the Legislature.
Do not transplant a staggered Senate clock onto Maine. All thirty-five seats are this even year. The next regular class is 2028. Do not transplant ranked-choice from the federal November line onto this general.
The Constitution does not pause because a session adjourns in June. Equal protection does not pause because a district is unorganized territory.
Rights from Kittery to Fort Kent
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on State Street and in an Aroostook precinct. Equal protection in sixteen counties and the unorganized territory those counties still contain. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the machine or the paper actually shows.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, and a vote. It must not treat Augusta as the state, Portland as the capital, or the ocean as the Kennebec. It must not treat a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Augusta is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The Secretary of State is the door.
