Not this Tuesday (third group): districts 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, 43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58. Those desks sit in 2028. Do not invent a 2026 race for a third-group district.

This is a regular State Senate election for this class. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Illinois’s 2026 Senate race is Class II. Illinois has no Class I. It is not the Governor race, though Illinois’s Governor is also on 2026. It is not the State House — that is 118 seats, a different chamber, all on the same Tuesday.

A complaint is a paper in Springfield
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the Legislative Inspector General and ethics doors where those statutes actually reach, the courts, and — for election process — the State Board of Elections and the local election authority. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer. The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to ilga.gov and elections.il.gov.
If a Senate desk goes empty after this election, the district party’s legislative committee is the appointment door, then the voters at the election the statute actually names. Confirm on the State Board.
Flood, freeze, and a river year
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. A flood on the Mississippi or the Illinois, a freeze on a prairie county, a levee night in the Metro East — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or river statute that was already on the calendar.
Chicago is Illinois. It is not the capital. East St. Louis looks at Missouri and remains Illinois. Mutual aid with an Iowa or Indiana county is real. Those counties do not vote in this chamber.
Second Wednesday in January
Due process on this hire: a primary on 17 March 2026, a special if one was actually required, a general on 3 November 2026. Illinois does not run Alabama’s midnight-of-election-day clock. Winners take office the second Wednesday of January. Confirm on the General Assembly.
Do not transplant an all-up two-year clock onto Illinois. Thirty-nine of fifty-nine seats are this class. The third group’s next regular is 2028.
The Constitution does not pause because a session is full-time. Equal protection does not pause because a district is downstate.
Rights on one hundred two counties
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on the capitol grounds and in a Shawnee precinct. Equal protection in one hundred two counties. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the machine or the paper actually shows.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, and a vote. It must not treat Chicago as the capital, Cook as the state, or a lakefront as the whole map. It must not treat a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Springfield is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The State Board of Elections is the door.
