- The regular class is thirteen of twenty-five: districts 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, 20, 21, 25.
- The other twelve sit in 2028. Do not invent a 2026 race for a district that is not up.
A vacancy remainder can land on the same Tuesday. Districts with a Governor’s appointment and a proclamation belong on the sample ballot if the Office of Elections actually posted them. Treat that as a clock. Confirm remaining dates on elections.hawaii.gov.
This is a regular State Senate election for this class. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Hawaii has no Class II and no 2026 U.S. Senate race. It is not the Governor race, though Hawaii’s Governor is also on 2026. It is not the State House — that is 51 seats, a different chamber, on the same Tuesday.
An unopposed primary nominee can be deemed elected at the primary (Article III, Section 4). That is Hawaii’s clock. Confirm on the Office of Elections. This page does not name candidates and does not declare a map winner.

Hiring a four-year island desk
You are hiring thirteen State Senators for Hawaii this cycle — four years, the upper house of state law, advice and consent that is not federal, a sixty-day session in a capital that is not Waikiki, a district that is not the whole chain. Read the chamber page before you read a mailer. This is not a U.S. Senate seat, not a Governor, and not a Mayor.
Winners take office on the day of the general election. That is Hawaii’s clock. Confirm on capitol.hawaii.gov.
A grievance is a paper, not a thread
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the State Ethics Commission where that statute actually reaches, the courts, and — for election process — the Office of Elections and the county clerk. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer. The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to capitol.hawaii.gov and elections.hawaii.gov.
If a Senate desk goes empty after this election, the Governor’s appointment from a party list is the door, and a remainder can go to the next general as HRS § 17-3 actually provides.
Hurricane, lava, and a ferry year
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. A hurricane that is not a Beretania press conference, a lava year on Hawaii Island, a fire year on Maui, a ferry cancellation that is how a neighbor-island constituent reaches this capitol — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the clinic or harbor statute that was already on the calendar.
Hilo is Hawaii. It is not Honolulu as the whole state. Lihue is Hawaii. Mutual aid with a county on another island is real. Those islands still hire this chamber.
The day of the general is the clock
Due process on this hire: a primary on 8 August 2026, a deemed-elected unopposed nominee if that is actually what happened, a remainder if the Governor actually proclaimed one, a general on 3 November 2026. Hawaii does not run Alabama’s midnight slogan as a different clock. The constitution starts the term on the day of the general election. Confirm on the Office of Elections.
Do not transplant an all-up two-year clock onto Hawaii. Thirteen regular four-year seats are this class. The next regular class is 2028.
The Constitution does not pause because a session is sixty days. Equal protection does not pause because a district is a neighbor island.
Rights on a four-county map
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Beretania and in a Hilo precinct. Equal protection in four counties and Kalawao. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the machine or the paper actually shows.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a water right, and a vote. It must not treat Honolulu as the whole chain, Waikiki as the map, or a neighbor island as an afterthought. It must not invent elected sheriffs. It must not treat a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Honolulu is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The Office of Elections is the door.
