This is a regular State Senate class — plus any remainder the statute actually put on this ballot. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Colorado’s 2026 Senate race is Class II. It is not the Governor race, though Colorado’s Governor is also on 2026. It is not the State House — that is 65 seats, a different chamber, all on this Tuesday.

A vacancy is a committee, then a Tuesday
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a confirmation that went sideways, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Senator’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction, the Independent Ethics Commission where that statute actually reaches, the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of State and the county clerk. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
Professional standards for a state employee sit with that agency and with the law the Senate actually wrote. The Attorney General is the state’s lawyer. The Senate is not that complaint box. Send people to leg.colorado.gov and the Secretary of State.
If a 2026 Senate seat is empty because someone left, Colorado does not wait on a Governor’s writ the way some states do. A vacancy committee names an appointee. The voters then see that remainder on the general the statute names. Confirm whether your district is a regular four-year hire, a remainder, or both — on .gov.
Fire, flood, and a compact year
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. A fire year on the Slope, a blizzard on I-70, a drought in the San Luis Valley, a flood on the South Platte — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The Senate’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the oversight that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or river-compact statute that was already on the calendar.
Grand Junction is Colorado. It is not Utah. Trinidad is Colorado. It is not New Mexico. Mutual aid with a Wyoming or Kansas county is real. Those counties do not vote in this chamber.
What four years of counsel actually buys
Bills. Confirmations. A Long Bill from the Joint Budget Committee. A district office that returns the call from a plains county that never makes the Civic Center news. A 120-day session short enough that a missed deadline is a real cost. Papers a constituent actually needs: a status on a bill, a confirmation notice, a referral to the agency that holds the license.
The staff is the office. A serious Senator is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. The gold dome is the session. The district is the hire.
January is the swear-in, not midnight
Due process on this hire: a primary on 30 June 2026, a vacancy remainder if one was actually on the ballot, a general on 3 November 2026. Colorado does not run Alabama’s midnight-of-election-day clock. Winners take office on the first day of the next regular session — second Wednesday of January, unless the statewide-executive year moves that opening. Confirm on the General Assembly.

This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, and a vote. It must not treat Denver as the state, Colorado Springs as the capital, or a ski town as the whole map. It must not treat a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
