- The Secretary of the Commonwealth’s cycle puts all one hundred sixty House seats on this even year. This chamber is not staggered. Do not transplant Louisiana’s odd-year clock onto Beacon Hill. Do not invent a Nebraska House — Nebraska has no lower house.

This is a regular House election for the whole chamber. It is not a U.S. House race (Massachusetts’s nine congressional seats are a different desk). It is not a U.S. Senate race. Massachusetts’s 2026 Senate race is Class II. It is not the Governor race, though Massachusetts’s Governor is also on 2026. It is not the State Senate — that is forty seats, also all up this Tuesday. It is not the Governor’s Council — eight Councillors, a different body, also on a two-year clock.
The 194th General Court is the sitting now. November hires the 195th. That is not a re-run of the summer calendar.

Two years from the first Wednesday; no term-limit clock
You are hiring one hundred sixty Representatives for Massachusetts — two years, the people’s house of state law, the floor where money bills start, a year-round General Court that may not adjourn more than two days, a district small enough to know the grocery even when the Commonwealth is old. Read the chamber page before you read a mailer. This is not a U.S. House seat, not a State Senator, not a Governor, and not a Mayor.
Winners take office the first Wednesday in January — after 2026 that is 6 January 2027. That is Massachusetts’s clock. Alabama’s midnight-of-election-day rule is not this desk. Confirm on the General Court site.
There is no legislative term-limit clock in Massachusetts. Do not transplant another state’s cap onto this floor.
A vacancy is a special writ, not an appointment
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a tax bill that never moved, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Representative’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction (often Ways and Means), the State Ethics Commission where that statute actually reaches, the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of the Commonwealth and the city or town clerk. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
A mid-term hole in this House is a special election. The Speaker issues precepts. It is not a Governor’s seat-gift. Impeachment, when it is actually this constitution’s file, is articles in the House and a Senate trial — not a comment. The Governor’s Council is not this grievance box. Send people to malegislature.gov and the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
Nor’easter year, ferry year, mill-city year
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and a money bill that must start here. A nor’easter, a cancelled ferry to the Islands, a mill-city year in the Valley, a freeze on a cranberry bog — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The House’s hour is the Ways and Means question that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or island statute that was already on the calendar.
Williamstown is Massachusetts. It is not New York. Fall River is Massachusetts. It is not Rhode Island. Mutual aid with a New Hampshire or Connecticut town is real. Those towns do not vote in this chamber.
Casework at grocery scale on fourteen counties
Bills. A money bill that must start here. A district office that returns the call from a Berkshire hill town that never makes the golden-dome news. A year-round calendar that still has a two-day adjournment cap. Papers a constituent actually needs: a status on a bill, a fiscal note, a referral to the agency that holds the license.
The staff is the office. A serious Representative is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. The golden dome is the session. The district is the hire. The grocery is the scale. Fourteen counties are geography. Some no longer run county government. The clerk is still the city or town.
September 1 is the primary; January 6 is the swear-in
Due process on this hire: a primary on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, a vacancy remainder if one is actually on the ballot, a general on 3 November 2026. Deadlines, absentee ballots, and registration belong on the Secretary of the Commonwealth. Do not teach a shortcut.
A vacancy after this election is still a special, not a tweet. A map fight is a legislative file and a court file. Do not transplant another state’s four-year House clock onto Massachusetts. All one hundred sixty seats are this even year. Do not transplant Nebraska’s unicameral onto this page.
The Constitution does not pause because the General Court sits year-round. Equal protection does not pause because a district is an island. Beacon Hill does not become the Commonwealth because a mailer said so.
Rights from the Berkshires to the Islands
Petition. Property. Peaceable assembly on Beacon Hill and in a mill city. Equal protection in fourteen counties, three hundred fifty-one cities and towns, and one hundred sixty districts. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the envelope actually holds.
This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, a ferry, and a vote. It must not treat Boston as the whole Commonwealth, Beacon Hill as the Cape, or Cambridge as the capital. It must not treat a U.S. House race as this desk. It must not treat the State Senate as this desk. It must not treat the Governor’s Council as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Boston is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The city or town clerk is the door.
