Two years from the second Monday in January
You are hiring one hundred twenty-five Representatives for Kansas — two years, the people’s house of state law, a ninety-calendar-day even-year wall, a district small enough to know the grocery. Read the chamber page before you read a mailer. This is not a U.S. House seat, not a State Senator, not a Governor, and not a Mayor.
Winners take office the second Monday of January following the election — Monday, 11 January 2027. That is Kansas’s clock (Article 2, Section 2). Indiana’s day-after rule is not this desk. Confirm on kslegislature.gov.
A May 1 vacancy clock is not a complaint box
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a money bill that never moved, or a district office that would not answer files on official doors: the Representative’s district office, the committee of jurisdiction (often Appropriations or Taxation), ethics doors where that statute actually reaches, the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of State and the county clerk. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
A mid-term hole in this House is a Governor appointment, plus a special election if the vacancy falls before May 1 of the second year. That is Kansas’s clock. It is not Indiana’s caucus. Impeachment, when it is actually this constitution’s file, is articles in the House and a Senate trial — not a comment. Send people to kslegislature.gov and the Secretary of State.
After a Flint Hills fire and a wheat drought
Relief this chamber actually votes is a statute and an appropriation. A Flint Hills fire season, a wheat drought, a Kansas River flood, an ice storm on I-70 — mutual aid and emergency years still run through the Governor’s desk first. The House’s hour is the bill that funds the year after, the Appropriations question that asks whether the money moved, and the rural hospital or wheat-county statute that was already on the calendar.
Wichita is Kansas. It is not the capital. Kansas City, Kansas is Kansas. Kansas City, Missouri is not. Mutual aid with an Oklahoma or Colorado county is real. Those counties do not vote in this chamber.
Casework from Wyandotte to the high plains
Bills. A ninety-day even-year clock. A district office that returns the call from a high-plains precinct that never makes the copper-dome news. Papers a constituent actually needs: a status on a bill, a fiscal note from Legislative Research, a referral to the agency that holds the license.
The staff is the office. A serious Representative is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. The copper dome is the session. The district is the hire. The grocery is the scale.
August already ran; 11 January is the swear-in
Due process on this hire: a primary that already ran 4 August 2026, a vacancy remainder if one is actually on the ballot, a general on 3 November 2026. Kansas does not run all-mail. Polls, advance voting, and registration deadlines belong on the Secretary of State. Do not teach a shortcut.
A vacancy after this election is still a Governor appointment plus the May 1 rule. A map fight is a statute and a court file. Do not transplant another state’s four-year House clock onto Kansas. All one hundred twenty-five seats are this even year. Do not transplant the Senate’s 2028 class onto this page. Do not transplant Nebraska’s unicameral onto this page.
The Constitution does not pause because a ninety-day sitting already adjourned. Equal protection does not pause because a district is rural. The May 1 vacancy rule does not pause because a calendar is crowded.
Rights on one hundred five counties

This chamber writes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, and a vote. Topeka is the capital. The people of the district hire the seat. The Secretary of State is the door.
