The 2026 clock — this is the year
- Next regular Mayor election: Tuesday 3 November 2026
- This is the race. Raleigh moved municipal elections to even years. Ordinance (2024) 627 makes 2026 the first four-year Mayor term. The winner’s next regular clock is 2030.
- Primary: nonpartisan top-two under G.S. 163-294, scheduled 3 March 2026 if more than two file. If only two file, both go to November. Confirm whether a primary was held with the Wake County Board of Elections. Do not invent a runoff that the statute does not write.
- Transition, not a slight. Districts C, D, E and the second at-large seat take two-year terms in 2026. The Mayor does not. Print the city’s term table, not a memory.
Polls, early voting, and absentee in North Carolina are a state machine run by the county board. Confirm at ncsbe.gov and Wake BOE. Anyone in line at close may vote. Photo ID is a North Carolina clock — confirm the current list on the State Board site.
This is not a Governor race. North Carolina’s Governor clock is a different office. Do not mix the two sample ballots.

You are hiring the Mayor of Raleigh for this city — four years after this transition, a voting member of an eight-member Council, a City Manager who still runs the night. Read the office page first. Politics, law, technology, justice, ministry, education, intelligence, and outreach on this land are the job. Not a slogan.
When a night went wrong under the oaks

After the remnant, the heat, Crabtree
Hurricane remnant. Heat under the oaks. Crabtree flood. Ice on the Beltline that dumps onto city pavement. Mutual aid with Wake towns is real. Charlotte is not Raleigh’s firehouse. The Governor’s emergency desk is later. This hydrant is first.
911 is the life call. 311 is the next morning’s work order. Confirm flood and road closures on official city and National Weather Service products — not on a group chat.
What four oak-canopy years buy
Four years of an elected Mayor who votes. A Manager who still runs police, fire, EMS, lights, and the budget the Council adopts. 311 that actually closes tickets. Plows. Trash. Papers the city has to serve. Transports. A ladder company on an oak block. Streetlights on a Southeast Raleigh street that never makes a Fayetteville Street postcard.
The staff is the office. A serious Mayor is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest 311, no rumor as policy. You are not hiring a Governor. You are not hiring a sheriff. You are not hiring Charlotte. You are not hiring a strong Mayor this charter does not write.
The Hargett Street clock
Arrest, booking, presentment, property, permits, hearings, civil service, union clocks. The Constitution does not pause because a radio is busy. Photo ID, same-day rules as North Carolina actually runs them, absentee — those are rights with a procedure, not slogans. Ordinance 627, G.S. 163-294, and the Wake BOE calendar set the dates. Do not teach a shortcut.
A Mayor vacancy is filled by the Council from their own number for the rest of the unexpired term. Confirm the ordinance. A recall, if anyone files one, is a North Carolina statutory machine. Confirm with Wake BOE, not with a thread.
Rights this Piedmont must not run over
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Fayetteville Street and in the districts — Union Square is state ground; the neighborhoods are city. Equal protection from District A to District E, from the oaks downtown to Southeast Raleigh. Speech. Religion. Disability access at the 311 window. Language access. The right to a sample ballot that is the Board’s, not a PAC’s.
The Mayor is a servant of this city, not a brand. Charlotte is not this vote. A two-year memory is not this clock.
