- Not 2026. Olympia’s 2026 cycle is a prosecuting-attorney race, not this Mayor. Washington city offices are generally odd-year and nonpartisan.
This is not a Governor race. Washington’s Governor is on a 2028 clock, a different office. Seattle is not this inlet.

What you are hiring
You are hiring Council Position One, the Mayor of Olympia — four years, council-manager charter, no regular administrative duties, City Manager for the daily departments, emergency police command only as the ordinance allows. Read the office page first. Politics, law, technology, justice, ministry, education, intelligence, and outreach on this land are the job. Not a slogan. Do not hire a strong-mayor fantasy this code does not run.
Remedy — a manager-city complaint is still a paper
A resident who was mistreated files on the city’s official complaint and professional-standards doors, not on a comment section. Police professional standards, fire investigation, the City Council as a check, and the courts. The Thurston County Sheriff is not this Mayor’s complaint box. Send people to olympiawa.gov.
Relief — the inlet before the state desk
A Budd Inlet flood, a windstorm that takes the trees, a wet-night fire on Fourth Avenue. Mutual aid with Lacey and Tumwater is real. Those cities are not Olympia’s firehouse. The Governor’s emergency desk is later. This hydrant is first. Seattle is north. It is not this Sound.
Service — what a ceremonial hire still owes
Papers the city has to serve. Transports. A ladder company in the rain. Streetlights. A 311 that tells the truth. The City Manager runs the day. The Mayor still owes the people a serious principal: clear gavel, honest service, no rumor as policy. Emergency police command is the exception the ordinance writes — not a daily desk.
Due process — odd-year November, not a 2026 transplant
Arrest, booking, presentment, property, permits, hearings. The Constitution does not pause because a radio is busy. Civil service and union clocks are real. Do not teach a shortcut. Do not move this race onto the 2026 statewide ballot.
Rights — the westside is on this hire too
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on Sylvester Park and in the neighborhoods. Equal protection from the westside to the eastside. The Mayor is a servant of this city, not a brand. Seattle does not vote here. Olympia does.
