- Next regular Mayor election: March 2028 — Town Meeting, first Tuesday in March (two-year charter; last Mayor election Tuesday 3 March 2026)
- Not November 2026. Vermont’s statewide two-year clock is a different set of offices. 24 App. V.S.A. ch. 5, § 401 still says two years. The two-year charter has not moved.
This is not a Governor race, even though Vermont’s Governor is also two years. Different office. Burlington is not this inland capital.

What you are hiring
You are hiring the Mayor of Montpelier for this city — two years, mayor–council with veto, six district councilors as the check, manager for the daily departments. Read the office page first. Politics, law, technology, justice, ministry, education, intelligence, and outreach on this land are the job. Not a slogan.
Remedy — a small-capital complaint is still a paper
A resident who was mistreated files on the city’s official complaint doors, not on a comment section. Police professional standards, fire investigation, the City Council as a check, and the courts. The Washington County Sheriff is not this Mayor’s complaint box. Send people to montpelier-vt.org.
Relief — the Winooski before the state desk
A Winooski flood, a blizzard that shuts the hill streets, a clapboard-block fire. Mutual aid with surrounding towns is real. Those towns are not Montpelier’s firehouse. The Governor’s emergency desk is later. This hydrant is first. The 2023 flood is why this city still drills the river.
Service — what a two-year hire actually buys
Papers the city has to serve. Transports. A plow on a hill street. A ladder company on State Street. Streetlights. A clerk who tells the truth. The manager runs the day. The Mayor still owes the people a serious principal: clear priorities, honest service, no rumor as policy.
Due process — Town Meeting, not a November transplant
Arrest, booking, presentment, property, permits, hearings. The Constitution does not pause because a radio is busy. Civil service clocks are real. Two years is the charter. Do not teach a four-year shortcut. Do not move this race onto the November 2026 statewide ballot.
Rights — the whole city is already the map
Counsel. Property. Peaceable assembly on State Street and in the neighborhoods. Equal protection on this Winooski bank. The Mayor is a servant of this city, not a brand. Burlington does not vote here. Montpelier does.
