Utah elects a Governor in presidential even years. Last regular: 5 November 2024. Next regular: Tuesday, 7 November 2028. Do not invent a 2026 Governor race. The Attorney General is also 2028 — a different desk. The House of Representatives is 2026. That is not this hire.
Fourth Tuesday in June, November 7 general — confirm vote.utah.gov
- Primary: Tuesday, 27 June 2028 (fourth Tuesday in June — Utah Code 20A-1-201.5). Confirm leftover dates on vote.utah.gov.
- General: Tuesday, 7 November 2028.
- Convention and petition path: Utah’s nomination path is this state’s statute, not a neighbor’s. Confirm declaration, convention, and signature windows with the Lieutenant Governor.
- Slate: Governor and Lieutenant Governor appear jointly (Article VII, Section 2). Confirm the live rule.
This is a regular gubernatorial election. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Utah has no Class II and no 2026 Senate. Four U.S. House districts are 2026. This desk is 2028.
Winners take office the first Monday of January next after the election — Monday, 1 January 2029 (Article VII, Section 1). Confirm the live calendar. That is Utah’s clock. It is not Bismarck’s December 15. It is not Olympia’s second Monday. It is not Charleston’s first Monday after the second Wednesday.
Utah has no Secretary of State. The Lieutenant Governor is the chief election officer. Do not teach a Bismarck or Olympia SOS story as Capitol Hill’s.

There is no term-limit clock on this hire in the live constitution. A 2003 repeal is not a crown. A proposed amendment is not a clock until the people actually adopt it.
A complaint against this desk is not a Salt Lake mayor file
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a license that never moved, or a cabinet that would not answer files on official doors: the Governor’s office, the department of jurisdiction, the Attorney General’s consumer or official-misconduct doors (that desk is a different 2028 hire), the courts, and — for election process — the Lieutenant Governor and the county clerk. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
A Salt Lake City mayor complaint is a city file (Mayor of Salt Lake City). Do not file a state executive grievance at city hall. St. George’s mayor is not this page.
Impeachment, when it is actually this constitution’s file, is the Legislature — not a comment.
After the canyon fire and an I-80 avalanche in the same week
Relief this office actually runs is a declaration and a Guard call-up in state status. A canyon fire that never makes a Capitol Hill press conference, an avalanche year on I-80, a Great Salt Lake dust week, a plateau flash flood — mutual aid with Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada is real. Those states do not vote for this Governor.
The Legislature’s hour is the statute and the forty-five-day sitting. The Governor’s hour is the night the ridge goes. Read the office page before you read a mailer.
Papers, the Guard in state status, the night shift on 29 counties
You are hiring the Governor of Utah for the whole state — four years, one executive, a Lieutenant Governor on the same slate who also runs elections. Papers a resident actually needs: a status on a cabinet file, a Board of Pardons process that is Article VII, Section 12 not a rumor, a disaster question that is not a mayor’s. The night shift is 29 counties, not one Front.
The staff is the office. A serious Governor is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. Salt Lake City is the job. The rest of the state is the hire. The Wasatch Front is not the map.
January 1 is the oath, not a June convention as the office
Due process on this hire: regular primary 27 June 2028, general 7 November 2028. Confirm filing, the joint-ticket rule, mail and early voting, and voter ID on vote.utah.gov. Do not teach a shortcut.
A vacancy after the election is succession under Article VII, Section 11, not a tweet. First-year vacancy: the people fill the remainder at the next regular general. After the first year: the Lieutenant Governor serves the rest. Do not transplant North Dakota’s December 15 onto Capitol Hill. Do not transplant Washington’s top-two primary onto a Utah party-and-convention path.
The Constitution does not pause because 2026 was even. Equal protection does not pause because a county is rural. The Wasatch Front does not become the state because a mailer said so.
A 2003 repeal is not a crown on Capitol Hill
Petition. Property. Peaceable assembly on Capitol Hill and in a San Juan precinct. Equal protection in twenty-nine counties. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the envelope actually holds. The right to an elections officer who is this state’s Lieutenant Governor, not a Secretary of State this constitution does not elect.
This office executes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, a road, water, and a vote. It must not treat the Wasatch Front as the state, St. George as the capital, or a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Salt Lake City is the capital. The people of Utah hire the office. The Lieutenant Governor is the elections door.
