Voter-education briefing for the 2028 Governor race in Missouri. Confirm names, dates, and the sample ballot on sos.mo.gov — not on social media. Jefferson City is the capital. Not St. Louis. Not 2026.

This is Side Two — the 2028 hire on the bluff, not a 2026 leftover

This page is the arena for this office, this cycle. Unique teaching for the job lives on the office twin.

It is not a campaign. It does not crown a winner. It does not tell you who to vote for. Names belong on the official sample ballot.

Missouri elects a Governor at presidential elections (Article IV, Section 17). Last regular: Tuesday, 5 November 2024. Next regular: Tuesday, 7 November 2028. Do not invent a 2026 Governor race. Even-numbered State Senate districts are 2026. The House is 2026. This desk is 2028.

When 114 counties and one independent city actually vote

  • Last regular general: Tuesday, 5 November 2024.
  • Next regular general: Tuesday, 7 November 2028. Confirm poll hours on sos.mo.gov/elections.
  • Primary: confirm the 2028 date when that calendar is posted. Missouri’s statewide primary is typically August. Do not invent the Tuesday.
  • Same November, different desks: Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Attorney General, and U.S. Senate Class III. Read the sample ballot line by line.

This is a regular gubernatorial election. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Missouri has no 2026 U.S. Senate race.

Winners take office at noon on the second Monday in January (RSMo 26.015). After 7 November 2028 that is January 2029. Confirm the live Monday.

Two lifetime terms is a clock. It is not a crown for the next name.

Names belong on sos.mo.gov

Do not take names from a news comment or a text thread.

  1. Official candidate list / sample ballot — Missouri Secretary of State — Elections
  2. Local sample ballot — the election authority in this county, or the City of St. Louis
  3. Current Governor of record (not the same thing as the 2028 nominee) — governor.mo.gov
  4. Registration and ballot status — the Secretary of State’s voter tools

If a site and the official sample ballot disagree, the sample ballot wins. If a 2026 sample ballot had no Governor line, there was no Governor race that year.

Contested elections for Governor are before the Supreme Court of Missouri (Article VII, Section 5), not a comment section.

A complaint against this desk is not an Arch-city mayor file

A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a license that never moved, or a cabinet that would not answer files on official doors: the Governor’s office, the department of jurisdiction, the Attorney General (that hire is also 2028), the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of State and the local election authority. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.

Jefferson City’s mayor is a different office (Mayor of Jefferson City). St. Louis’s mayor is not this desk. Kansas City’s mayor is not this desk. Do not file a state executive grievance at city hall.

Impeachment, when it is actually this constitution’s file, is articles in the House and a Senate trial — not a comment.

A vacancy in the General Assembly is a writ of election from this Governor (Article III, Section 14). That is a different file from this hire. Do not mix them.

After the river and the ice in the same week

Relief this office actually runs is a declaration and a Guard call-up in state status. A Missouri River flood on the Jefferson City bluff, ice on I-70, a Bootheel drought, an Ozark tornado — mutual aid with Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee is real. Those states do not vote for this Governor.

The General Assembly’s hour is the statute and the appropriation — and, when it is actually triggered, a September veto session. The Governor’s hour is the night the river comes over the walkway. Read the office page before you read a mailer.

Papers, the Guard in state status, the night shift on 114 counties plus the city

You are hiring the Governor of Missouri for the whole state — four years, one executive, one hundred fourteen counties plus the independent City of St. Louis. Papers a resident actually needs: a status on a cabinet file, a clemency process that is Article IV, Section 7 (and not parole), a disaster question that is not a mayor’s. The night shift is counties and one independent city, not one skyline.

The staff is the office. A serious Governor is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. Jefferson City is the job. The rest of the state is the hire.

Last regular 5 November 2024; next is 7 November 2028

Due process on this hire: there is no Governor primary in 2026. Next regular class is 7 November 2028. Confirm the 2028 primary, filing, mail, and photo ID on sos.mo.gov. Do not teach a shortcut. Do not transplant Indiana’s majority override onto Article III, Section 32. Do not transplant Delaware’s three counties onto this map.

The Constitution does not pause because 2026 was a House year. Equal protection does not pause because a county is rural. St. Louis does not become the capital because a mailer said so.

Elected not more than twice is a clock, not a crown

Petition. Property. Peaceable assembly on the bluff and in a Bootheel precinct. Equal protection in one hundred fourteen counties plus the independent city. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the envelope actually holds — including the right to have seen no Governor line in 2026.

This office executes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a river, a road, and a vote. It must not treat St. Louis as the capital, Jefferson City as the whole river, or a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.

Jefferson City is the capital. The people of the state hire the office. The Secretary of State is the door.
