Louisiana elects a Governor in odd years, on Saturdays. Last regular: 14 October / 18 November 2023. Next regular: Saturday, 9 October 2027 and Saturday, 20 November 2027 if a general is needed. Do not invent a 2026 Governor race.
When the parishes actually vote

- Gubernatorial Primary: Saturday, 9 October 2027. Qualifying 3–5 August 2027. In-person/mail registration deadline 8 September 2027. Geaux Vote online registration 18 September 2027. Early voting 25 September–2 October 2027.
- Gubernatorial General: Saturday, 20 November 2027 (if no majority in the primary). In-person/mail registration deadline 20 October 2027. Geaux Vote online 30 October 2027. Early voting 5–13 November 2027.
- Polls on Saturday elections: confirm 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the Secretary of State.
This is a regular gubernatorial election. It is not a U.S. Senate race. Louisiana’s 2026 Senate race is a different desk. The House and State Senate stand the same odd year as this Governor. They are still not this desk.
Winners take office at noon the second Monday in January after the election (January 2028). Confirm the live Monday.
Names belong on Geaux Vote

A complaint in a parish is not a New Orleans mayor file
A resident who was mistreated by a state agency, a license that never moved, or a cabinet that would not answer files on official doors: the Governor’s office, the department of jurisdiction, the Attorney General’s official doors (that desk is a different 2027 hire), the courts, and — for election process — the Secretary of State and the parish registrar. A Facebook thread is not a grievance.
A New Orleans mayor complaint is a city file. Baton Rouge’s Mayor-President is a different office (Mayor of Baton Rouge). Do not file a state executive grievance at city hall.
Impeachment, when it is actually this constitution’s file, is articles in the House and a Senate trial — not a comment.
After the Gulf and the river in the same season
Relief this office actually runs is a declaration and a Guard call-up in state status. A Gulf hurricane, a Mississippi flood at Baton Rouge, a freeze in a citrus parish, an industrial-corridor night — mutual aid with Texas, Mississippi, and Arkansas is real. Those states do not vote for this Governor.
The Legislature’s hour is the statute and the appropriation. The Governor’s hour is the night the levee radio is the job. Read the office page before you read a mailer.
Papers, the Guard, a night at the tower
You are hiring the Governor of Louisiana for the whole state — four years, one executive, sixty-four parishes. Papers a resident actually needs: a status on a cabinet file, a clemency process that is not a rumor, a disaster question that is not a mayor’s. The night shift is parishes, not one Quarter.
The staff is the office. A serious Governor is a serious principal: clear priorities, honest casework, no rumor as policy. Baton Rouge is the job. The rest of the state is the hire.
Saturday October 9, Saturday November 20 — confirm sos.la.gov
Due process on this hire: 9 October 2027 primary, 20 November 2027 general if needed. Confirm qualifying, mail ballots, and Geaux Vote on the Secretary of State. Do not teach a shortcut. Do not transplant Kentucky’s May primary onto a Saturday river calendar. Do not transplant New Jersey’s 2029 clock onto this 2027 hire.
The Constitution does not pause because 2026 was even. Equal protection does not pause because a parish is rural. New Orleans does not become the capital because a mailer said so.
Two consecutive terms; the sample ballot is Geaux Vote
Petition. Property. Peaceable assembly at the tower and in a pine-hills precinct. Equal protection in sixty-four parishes. The right to a sample ballot that matches what the envelope actually holds.
This office executes state law that can touch a license, a tax, a school, a prison, a levee, a road, and a vote. It must not treat New Orleans as the capital, Baton Rouge as the whole river, a county as a parish, or a U.S. Senate race as this desk. It must not crown itself.
Baton Rouge is the capital. The people of the state hire the office. The Secretary of State is the door.
