Wilcox County, Alabama, was erected 13 December 1819 by the Territorial Legislature from parts of Dallas and Monroe, and named for Lt. Joseph M. Wilcox. The first seat was Canton Bend on the Alabama River. The county seat moved to Barboursville in 1833. The town was renamed Camden for Camden, South Carolina, and incorporated 1841. Camden is the seat. Camden is also the largest city. Pine Hill and Yellow Bluff are towns. Pine Apple and Oak Hill are towns. Gee’s Bend / Boykin is a river community — it is not the hall.
