The Sheriff is a county officer (California Constitution Article XI; Government Code § 24000). This Sheriff sat on the 2026 gubernatorial table because the charter put the oval there. Charter § 501 elects Sheriff with Districts 1 and 4. Charter § 202 puts those districts on the gubernatorial general. Elections Code § 1300(c) excepts this charter from the 2028 presidential shift.
