Fayette County, Alabama, was erected 20 December 1824 from portions of Tuscaloosa and Marion and named for the Marquis de Lafayette, then touring the state. Fayette the city is the seat. Fayette the city is also the large city. The first settlement around the present hall was once called LaFayette; the incorporated name became Fayette Court House, then Fayette. Berry is a town — it is not the hall. Belk is a town. Glen Allen and Winfield sit partly in Marion. This is not Fayetteville, Arkansas. This is not Fayetteville, North Carolina. This is not Fayette County, Georgia. This is not Fayette County, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, or Ohio. Montgomery is the capital of Alabama. The courthouse is at 113 Temple Avenue North, Fayette, AL 35555 (24th Judicial Circuit — fayette.alacourt.gov). The Circuit Clerk and Absentee Election Manager list that Temple door (SOS). A Fayetteville rumor is not this county.
The Sheriff is four years, Article V § 138, 2026 with the Governor. Take office 18 January 2027. The Mayor of Fayette is a city clock.

The Sipsey River — a free-flowing swamp-and-stream system, a tributary of the Tombigbee — cuts the county. U.S. 43 is the through road. The west sits in the East Gulf Coastal Plain; the east on the Cumberland Plateau. Marion is north. Walker is east. Tuscaloosa is southeast. Pickens is southwest. Lamar is west. Staff who paste a Fayetteville skyline onto Temple, or treat this as Fayette County, Georgia, or file “Berry as the county hall,” are on the wrong county.
