Jonesboro in the Western District is the county seat and the large city, and that is where the Detention Center and the Western District Sheriff’s Office sit. Lake City in the Eastern District has a courthouse at 113 Cobean Blvd. and an Eastern District Sheriff’s Office at 107 Cobean Blvd. — a second seat of justice, not a second county, not a second Sheriff. Arkansas State University is a campus. It is not county government. Brookland, Bay, Bono, Caraway, Monette, Black Oak, Cash, and Egypt are municipalities, not the hall.

Craighead is an elected Quorum Court of justices of the peace. Justices sit two years. Official county site: they meet the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 5:30 p.m. in the Courthouse Annex basement, 511 Union Street. They fund roads, both courthouse campuses, and the Sheriff’s budget. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. Jonesboro City Council is a city body. Lake City’s town board is a city body. U.S. 63 and U.S. 49 are through roads. Crowley’s Ridge is the landform. Lawrence is west and north. Greene is north — Paragould is that hall. Missouri (Dunklin) is north. Mississippi County is east. Poinsett is south — Harrisburg is that hall. Jackson is west. Staff who paste a Little Rock skyline onto South Main, or treat ASU as this county government, or file “two sheriffs because two courthouses,” are on the wrong county.

A student who only knows a capital photograph, or only a campus quad, has not found Jonesboro as this county. A student in Lake City still uses this Sheriff — the eastern courthouse is a filing door, not a second oval.
Willett Road still jails. Jonesboro PD does not. ASU police does not.
Crime in unincorporated Craighead — Brookland country, Bay roads, Caraway, Monette, Ridge roads on both districts — is this Sheriff. Crime in Jonesboro is often Jonesboro Police. Crime on campus is often university police. This Sheriff is not either. The live Sheriff site puts HQ and detention at 901 Willett Road (Detention Center from 1989; confirm live capacity). No separate county Department of Corrections turned up — do not invent a jailer split. Do not send a family looking for a county booking to ASU, to Memphis, or to Little Rock. Civil process and courthouse security at both district doors are the Sheriff. Rights do not change on Crowley’s Ridge. Remedy for Jonesboro Police is the City.
