Conecuh County · Evergreen · the canebrake seat sits here · the Gulf is not this county

Evergreen is the seat and the large town. This is not a beach county.

Conecuh County, Alabama, was created 13 February 1818 by the Alabama Territorial Legislature from Monroe and named from a Creek phrase for canebrakes. Evergreen is the seat. Evergreen is also the largest city. Castleberry is not the county government. Repton is not the county government. This is not a beach county. The Gulf sits in Baldwin and Mobile. Staff who paste a Gulf Shores dune onto Court Street have left the map. Montgomery is the capital of Alabama. It does not sit here.

Places include Evergreen, Castleberry, and Repton. 2020 census: 11,597. This page is Side One for the place. The Sheriff’s job — I-65 pine patrol and the Liberty Street detention house — is taught at Office of the Sheriff — Conecuh County.

Five districts. Castleberry and Repton are not the hall.

Conecuh is a five-member County Commission, one commissioner per district (Ala. Code Title 45, Chapter 18). They fund roads, the courthouse at 111 Court Street, and the Sheriff’s budget. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. Evergreen City Council is a city body. Castleberry and Repton are town bodies.

The Sheriff is four years, Article V § 138, 2026 with the Governor. Take office 18 January 2027. The Mayor of Evergreen is a city clock.

I-65 cuts pine, not sand. The Gulf sits in other counties.

I-65 is the through spine. U.S. 31 and U.S. 84 are the older roads. The Sepulga River runs the northeast. Murder Creek and Burnt Corn Creek cut the west and south. Butler is north. Covington is east. Escambia is south. Monroe is west. This is inland coastal plain — canebrake and pine — not Orange Beach. Staff who treat Conecuh as a beach county, or file Evergreen as a suburb of Brewton, are on the wrong county.

How an Evergreen public finds the Conecuh desk

The courthouse sits at 111 Court Street, Evergreen, AL 36401. Circuit Clerk / Absentee Election Manager: Room 203 (sos.alabama.gov city-county lookup). Probate: Room 104. Sheriff administration and jail: 104 Liberty Street, Evergreen, AL 36401. Confirm live addresses on those doors. A student who only knows an I-65 rest-stop photograph has not found Court Street.

104 Liberty Street still jails. Evergreen PD does not.

Crime in unincorporated Conecuh — the pine between Castleberry and Repton, the I-65 exits that are not city limits — is this Sheriff. Crime in Evergreen is often Evergreen Police. The Conecuh County Jail at 104 Liberty Street is this Sheriff’s house. The Alabama Sheriffs Association directory lists the jail at that same Liberty Street address. Ala. Code § 14-6-1 puts the jail on this Sheriff. ALEA is the state. Civil process and court security at 111 Court Street are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the Escambia line. Remedy for Evergreen Police is the City. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when Murder Creek comes up is this count first.

Care without inventing a canebrake chapel as this county

A peace order served in Repton. A transport from 104 Liberty Street to Room 203 without becoming Evergreen Police. Do not invent a church. Do not invent a pine stand as this badge.

Murder Creek and the Sepulga are this watch, not a Gulf forecast

Court calendar on Court Street. A wreck on I-65. A rise on Murder Creek. A fog night on U.S. 84 that is still this county’s road. Coordination with Evergreen Police and ALEA without becoming those departments. Coordination with Monroe or Escambia is mutual aid between two offices, not a merger.
