Coffee County, Alabama, was erected 29 December 1841 from Dale and named for John Coffee. The first seat was Wellborn. After a fire in 1851, the hall moved to Elba in 1852. Elba is the seat. Enterprise is the large city (part of it also sits in Dale). Enterprise is not the county government. New Brockton is a town and the County Complex sits there. New Brockton is not the hall. This is not Coffee County, Tennessee (Manchester). This is not Coffee County, Georgia or Kansas. Montgomery is the capital of Alabama. It does not sit here. Ozark is Dale. It is not this hall. Dothan is Houston.

Coffee is a seven-member County Commission, one commissioner per district. The county itself says it is one of the few Alabama counties with two jurisdictional divisions. There is no County Executive. Commission offices sit at 1065 E. McKinnon Street / 2 County Complex, New Brockton. They fund roads, the jail, and the Sheriff’s budget. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. Enterprise City Council is a city body. Elba is a city. New Brockton is a town.
Two courthouses still sit. The Elba court is at 230 Court Avenue. The Enterprise court is listed by AlaCourt as Coffee-Enterprise at 104 North Edwards Street (civic listings also use 99 South Edwards Street on that campus). A second courthouse is not a second county seat. Elba remains the seat.
The Sheriff is four years, Article V § 138, 2026 with the Governor. Take office 18 January 2027. The Mayor of Enterprise is a city clock. The Mayor of Elba is a city clock.
The Pea River floods Elba. Fort Novosel is not this jail.
The Pea River runs Elba. The courthouse on the square has taken floodwater. Fort Novosel (formerly Fort Rucker) sits on the Dale / Coffee line near Enterprise. It is not this Sheriff’s jail. It is not Elba City Hall. U.S. 84 and U.S. 231 are the through roads. Dale is east. Geneva is south. Covington is west. Crenshaw and Pike are north. Staff who paste an Enterprise boll-weevil postcard onto Court Avenue, or treat Enterprise as the county hall, or file “Fort Novosel MP as this badge,” are on the wrong county.

Crime in Enterprise is often Enterprise Police. Crime in Elba is often Elba Police. New Brockton and Kinston keep municipal officers. This Sheriff is not Enterprise PD. The county’s own response-agency table lists the Sheriff at 1133 E. McKinnon St., New Brockton. The Secretary of State lists the Sheriff at 4 County Complex, New Brockton. Jail listings use that Complex. That is not a separate county Department of Corrections. The Old Coffee County Jail at 329 Putnam Street, Elba, is a historic house (closed as a jail). It is not today’s booking. Elba Work Release is ADOC. Do not paste Fort Novosel onto the Complex. Do not send a family looking for a county booking to Enterprise Police. Civil process and courthouse security at 230 Court Avenue and the Enterprise division are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at the Pea River. Remedy for Enterprise Police is the City. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when the Pea comes up in Elba is this count first.
