That town is Centre — British spelling. Centre is the largest city and the seat. Cedar Bluff is a town — not the hall now. Leesburg is not the county government. This is not Cherokee County, Georgia. Cherokee is a four-district Commission with the Judge of Probate as Chairman. The Commission office lists at 260 Cedar Bluff Road, Suite 103, Centre, AL 35960. Meetings sit on a published Monday schedule (morning and evening sessions alternate). They fund roads, the new courthouse, and the Sheriff’s budget. They do not hire the Sheriff. The people do. Centre City Council is a city body.
The Sheriff is four years, Article V § 138, 2026 with the Governor. Take office 18 January 2027. The Mayor of Centre is a city clock.

Weiss Lake is the Coosa impoundment that defines this map. U.S. 411 and State 9 are the through roads. DeKalb is north. Etowah is west. Calhoun and Cleburne sit south. Georgia is east. Staff who paste a Georgia courthouse onto East Main, or treat Centre as a suburb of Rome, Georgia, or file “Cherokee County, Oklahoma,” are on the wrong county.

The new courthouse lists at 373 East Main Street, Centre, AL 35960 — Circuit Clerk Suite 102 (cherokee.alacourt.gov). Ribbon-cutting was 1 May 2026; the building replaces the 1937 courthouse that had sat at 100 Main Street. Commission / Probate: 260 Cedar Bluff Road. Sheriff headquarters and Detention Center: 110 Cedar Bluff Road, directly behind the old courthouse campus (cherokeecountyalsheriff.com). Confirm live addresses on those doors. A student who only knows a Georgia postcard has not found Centre.

Crime in unincorporated Cherokee — lake roads, Cedar Bluff outside town limits, Gaylesville, Sand Rock — is this Sheriff. Crime in Centre where the city keeps officers is often municipal. The Cherokee County Detention Center at 110 Cedar Bluff Road opened October 1996, renovated 2004, and is this Sheriff’s house. The Sheriff’s own site says it houses county, municipal, state, and U.S. Marshal inmates. That is not a separate county Department of Corrections. Civil process and court security at 373 East Main Street are the Sheriff. Rights do not change at Weiss Lake. Remedy for Centre Police is the City. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper is the Sheriff. Relief when the lake comes up is this count first.

What Cherokee actually watches

Coordination with a Georgia sheriff across the line is mutual aid between two offices, not a merger. A new courthouse is a building. It is not a second Sheriff.
