Carroll County, New Hampshire

Carroll County · Ossipee · the Notch is a road · the Sheriff is a two-year desk
A mountain shire that still sits
Carroll is a working county on the south side of the White Mountains. It is not a Massachusetts abolished map. Commissioners still sit. A county convention still votes a budget. A house of correction still takes a count — superintendent, not the Sheriff. The Sheriff is still elected here. Municipal police, fire, schools, and town clerks are city and town services. Confirm officers on the Secretary of State county roster.
North Conway is a village of Conway. Laconia is Belknap. Lancaster is Coös. Maine is a different state. Do not steal them.
This page is Side One. The Sheriff’s job is taught at Office of the Sheriff — Carroll and the election twin.
Notches, lakes, Maine line
The Kancamagus is a road. Ossipee Lake is water. Wolfeboro looks at the lake and remains Carroll. Wakefield looks at Maine and remains New Hampshire. Jackson sits under the notches. Sandwich is a town, not a food court. A winter storm here is a closed Notch and an isolated hill town. A Columbus Day weekend is a crowd that is still this county’s law. No ocean. No capital dome.
Commissioners under foliage
Three county commissioners sit by district. The convention is this county’s House members. The Sheriff, County Attorney, Treasurer, and the registers are elected. Carroll’s sheriff clock is two years — RSA 653:1. 2026 is on. Coös, next north, is four-year and has no 2026. Do not mix those tables. March town meeting is not the November sheriff oval.
How a tourist map actually reaches a desk
Each municipality has its own site. Conway’s site does not speak for Wakefield. The Sheriff’s official listing speaks for process and court. The house of correction’s listing speaks for custody. A student looks at that town’s jobs page or that department’s jobs page. Outreach that only knows a ski village is not doing Brookfield.
Custody, courts, papers, rights
Crime and fire are municipal. Jail is the county Department of Corrections. Prosecution is the County Attorney. Rights do not change at the Sandwich line. Remedy for a town police issue is that town. Remedy for a jail issue is the superintendent. Remedy for a Sheriff’s paper or a transport is the Sheriff. Relief in a Notch blizzard is mutual aid plus the State. Papers still get served in Eaton.
